Everybody loves a 'good theme' party but how can you get original ideas?
Themes are a great idea for a baby shower creating a real party atmosphere by matching invitations, favors, decorations, Baby Shower Games and even the food.

My personal list of favorite baby shower theme ideas is below. Hopefully either one of the old 'classics' or a more original themes will provide you with the perfect baby shower party BUT please remember it must suit the most important guest - the expectant mother.

Once you have decided on the Baby Shower theme, use the theme for invitations, decorations, name tags, Baby Shower games, cakes, favors, prizes...etc....

A to Z
Write an alphabet letter on each guest's invitation and have them bring a gift beginning with that letter. Decorate the room with letters or just one letter e.g. 'B' for baby or 'M' for Mom. Allocate 1 letter name tags or if you have Sarah and Susan make them S1 & S2. If you know the baby's name write one letter per diaper and hang them up to make the name on a clothesline. OR use your original humor on hangings e.g. 'I' is for Insomnia, 'S' is for stretch-marks.....
Animal

Choose a specific animal (or animals) as a baby shower theme for all your invitations and decorations. Click here for WILD ANIMAL WALL STICKERS! perfect for party decoration and for the babies room. Huge selection, full color.

Baby products
Give your baby shower party a baby-related theme e.g. building blocks, yellow ducks, drinking bottles, diapers...etc... Use cloth diapers as place mats, pacifiers as napkin rings, ...
Character
Use any children's character as a baby shower party theme. e.g. Barney, Sesame Street, Disney character...etc..
Clothesline
Hang up a clotheslinee above the party room. When you send out invitations ask each guest to bring a specific size and type of clothes as a gift. Hang the wrapped clothes gifts on the clothesline.
Colors
Use the mother-to-be's favorite colors, or the traditional blue or pink if you know the baby's gender. Get guests all to where on color.
Countries
Ask each guest to be a 'wise man' bearing gifts from a country of their (or your) choice. Get them to dress as an inhabitant of that country and bring a related gift. Decorate room on global theme.
Diapers
This 'old classic' needs little advice
Hat Party
Get all guests to wear hats of any sort. Some thrift stores will 'rent' hats and act out a role play based on their hat as a party game.
Hollywood
Decorate room with pictures of famous movie stars and films. Focus on mothers and movies including babies e.g. Three Men and A Baby, Look Who's Talking. Game.... play the 'Who am I?' baby shower game using famous Hollywood stars.
Mother
Shower mom with gifts for her, instead of the usual baby items. decorate using 'a few of her favorite things' to quote The Sound of Music.
Musical
Send invitations decorated with musical instruments or using song lyrics or even cards that play music. Decorate the room with pop star posters or instruments or concentrate on the Classics.
Nursery Rhymes or Stories
Send invitations beginning with 'Once upon a time' and take it from there. Everyone lives a good story! Decorate room as 'Hey Diddle Diddle' or 'Goldilocks and the 3 bears' or any children's story. Use children's books for table centerpieces. Stack the books and tie ribbon around the books with a big bow on top. Decorate the top with a pacifier.
Pregnant
Make the mother-to-be feel at home by making all guests pregnant with the help of cushions and baggy clothes
Religious
Obviously depends on religious beliefs. For Christians, consider asking guests to come as Wise Men and Shepherds and decorate room as a stable with a manger big enough for Mom. Gifts of gold are usually appreciated more than frankincense and myrrh!
Shower
Not original! Tell guests that the forecast says showers today and everyone comes in raincoats. Decorate room with umbrellas,galoshes..etc...
Sport
Probably only for a boy especially if Dad's are coming. Any sporting directions and eat peanuts, hot dogs... and drink( non-drivers only)...beer.
Time of Day
All mothers watch the clock! Give each guest a time of day on their invitation and ask them to bring gifts that the guest thinks mom or baby could use at that time. Usually get lots of baby bottles and wine bottles as gifts from experienced mothers! Decorate the room with clocks.
