Write an alphabet letter on each guest's invitation
and have them bring a gift beginning with that letter. Decorate the
room with letters or just one letter e.g. 'B' for baby or 'M' for
Mom. Allocate 1 letter name tags or if you have Sarah and Susan make
them S1 & S2. If you know the baby's name write one letter per
diaper and hang them up to make the name on a clothesline. OR use
your original humor on hangings e.g. 'I' is for Insomnia, 'S' is
for stretch-marks..... |

Animal
|
Choose a specific animal (or animals) as a baby shower theme for

Give your baby shower party a baby-related theme e.g. building

Clothesline

Use the mother-to-be's favorite colors, or the traditional
blue or pink if you know the baby's gender. Get guests all to where

Ask each guest to be a 'wise man' bearing gifts from
a country of their (or your) choice. Get them to dress as an inhabitant
of that country and bring a related gift. Decorate room on global

Hat Party
|
Get all guests to wear hats of any sort.
Some thrift stores will 'rent' hats and act out a role play based on
their hat as a party game. |

Hollywood
|
Decorate room with pictures of famous movie
stars and films. Focus on mothers and movies including babies e.g.
Three Men and A Baby, Look Who's Talking. Game.... play the 'Who am
I?' baby shower game using famous Hollywood stars. |

Mother
|
Shower mom with gifts for her, instead of
the usual baby items. decorate using 'a few of her favorite things'
to quote The Sound of Music. |

Musical
|
Send invitations decorated with musical instruments
or using song lyrics or even cards that play music. Decorate the room
with pop star posters or instruments or concentrate on the Classics. |

Nursery Rhymes or Stories
|
Send invitations beginning with 'Once upon a time' and
take it from there. Everyone lives a good story! Decorate room as
'Hey Diddle Diddle' or 'Goldilocks and the 3 bears' or any children's
story. Use children's books for table centerpieces. Stack the books
and tie ribbon around the books with a big bow on top. Decorate the
top with a pacifier. |

Pregnant
|
Make the mother-to-be feel at home by making all guests
pregnant with the help of cushions and baggy clothes |
|
Religious
|
Obviously depends on religious beliefs. For Christians,
consider asking guests to come as Wise Men and Shepherds and decorate
room as a stable with a manger big enough for Mom. Gifts of gold are
usually appreciated more than frankincense and myrrh! |

Shower
|
Not original! Tell guests that the forecast says showers
today and everyone comes in raincoats. Decorate room with umbrellas,galoshes..etc... |

Sport
|
Probably only for a boy especially if Dad's
are coming. Any sporting directions and eat peanuts, hot dogs... and
drink( non-drivers only)...beer. |

Time of Day
|
All mothers watch the clock! Give each guest
a time of day on their invitation and ask them to bring gifts that
the guest thinks mom or baby could use at that time. Usually get lots
of baby bottles and wine bottles as gifts from experienced mothers!
